Although wireless mice haven't achieved widespread adoption, their development has a long history.
Logitech successfully developed its first wireless mouse in 1984. However, early wireless mice relied on infrared light as the signal carrier, and this product ultimately failed due to numerous performance issues.
In 1994, Logitech developed a mouse using 27 MHz RF wireless technology. This technology became the primary communication solution for early wireless mice, but it had limitations such as limited transmission distance and high power consumption. 27 MHz technology also became a new communication technology for wireless keyboards and mice.
In 1998, the Special Interest Group (SIG) was established to develop Bluetooth technology. Bluetooth, with its standard defined by the SIG, operates in the 2.4 GHz band, with subsequent versions continuously improving transmission efficiency and reducing power consumption. However, both the 2.4 GHz non-networked solution and Bluetooth technology were later applied to wireless mice. 2.4 GHz wireless technology gradually became mainstream, addressing some of the shortcomings of earlier technologies and supporting more efficient transmission and lower power consumption. Modern wireless mice primarily use Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz (and 5.8 GHz) wireless technology standards, enabling wider application.
